MacNeill, Ruth Eleanor, 82, of Truro passed away peacefully
on Sunday, September 28, 2014, in the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre Truro. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter of the late Neil
and Mary Jane (Sommers) MacNeil. Ruth’s greatest love was
her family and also her dog Mickey. She also enjoyed quilting, playing
cards, gardening, traveling, baking, and especially baking squares.
She is survived by daughter, Sherri (Danny) Hughes, Truro; sons,
Michael (Cinda), London, ON, David, Truro; sisters, Helen Sutherland,
Antigonish, Ethel Chisholm, Truro, Sister Harriet MacNeil, Sydney,
Irene (Bill) Armstrong, St. Mary’s, ON; grandchildren,
Robert "R.J.", Maria (Mitch) Finley, Jamie, Shawn,
Dana, Faren; great grandchildren, Hailey, Sonya, Ethan, Sophia;
several nieces and nephews; close friends, Annette Downing, Ann (Rory)
MacNeil. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert James MacNeill;
sisters, Margaret MacDonald, Mabel Grant, Leona Flemming, Evelyn
Rankin; brothers, George, Roy, Jimmy, Connie and John
"Jackie" MacNeil. No visitation by request. Funeral
service will be held Monday, October 6, at 11 am, in the Immaculate
Conception Church, 669 Prince Street Truro, Father Dariusz Miskowicz
officiating, with a reception to follow in Campbell Hall. Interment
will then be held in St. Ninian’s Cemetery in Antigonish. In
lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NS, the NS Lung Association or to
the Colchester Mental Health Association. Arrangements have been
entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street
