Robert "Bob" Aggas, RN, RCN (Ret.) – Truro. Bob's family is saddened to announce his passing at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro, on Monday, October 6, 2014, at the age of 98. Bob was born in Lavenham, England, on July 7, 1916, to the late Robert and Winifred (Smith) Aggas.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Bobbie Sears (Gordon), Victor, Roger (Debbie); grandchildren, Jennifer, Greg, Holly, Becki, Rob; great-grandchildren, Allie, Mitchell, Connor, Charlie; sister, Marie. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by Vera, his loving wife of 72 years; brother, Bill; sister, Margaret.

Dad joined the Royal Navy at the age of 16, rising to the rank of CPO during the Second World War. He was deployed as a telegraphic air gunner and saw action in North Africa, Scotland, Italy and the North Atlantic. He was stationed on HMS Suffolk when they located and shadowed the Bismarck, resulting in its sinking. After the war, Dad emigrated to Canada where he was briefly employed with Northern Electric before joining the RCN and serving at Shearwater until retirement. He was then employed at Bedford Institute of Oceanography on research ships for several years. The family lived in Montreal, Dartmouth, Coldbrook, Fall River and most recently, Truro. Dad was a devoted husband and father. He was a ham radio operator and loved to sail in his younger years. We admired his stamina despite many health issues. We would like to thank the staff of Parkland Estates, Truro, who have provided caring assistance to our parents over the past few years.

There will be a private service for family at a later date. Donations can be made to your local chapter of  SPCA in his memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Bob’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
