E. Myrtle (Matheson) Hamilton – 80, Truro. Myrtle left this world peacefully, into the arms of the Lord, on Wednesday evening, October 29, 2014, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born March 31, 1934, in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Garfield and Edna (Graham) Matheson.

Myrtle was a past member of the IODE, Scotia Branch, and an associate member of RCMP Veterans Association and was the recent recipient of the RCMP’s "Second Man Award" of which she was very proud. In earlier years, she attended The Salvation Army, and currently was an active member of Brunswick Street United Church. She loved to cook and bake and was a master chef in the kitchen, with recipes tucked away everywhere. She delighted in her family, loved games and puzzles, was a talented craft maker and took great pleasure in knitting slippers, mitts and caps for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Myrtle is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Earl; daughter, Leslie (Tom) Maguire; sons, David (Pat), Allan (Sandra); ten grandchildren, Riley, Courtney, Kristen, Laura, Parker, Brooklyn, Justin, Adam, Bradley, Myles; four great grandchildren, Ben, Mia, Jasper, Isla; brother, Russell (Marilyn); sister, Velma (Bill) Brown; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In spite of the many miles that separated Myrtle from her family and extended family from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and The Netherlands, she loved them all dearly and kept the phone lines very busy just to hear their voices.

Myrtle loved traveling and camping throughout North America, working as a camp host in every state, province and territory with her husband after his retirement from the RCMP. She especially loved the far North. Myrtle became ill in 2005, resulting in mobility problems that concluded her camping life, but introduced traveling by plane, train, cruise ships and brief vacations in Florida. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends and will be greeted in heaven by her son, Brian, and daughter, Linda. Special thanks are extended to Colchester East Hants Health Centre, 3rd floor D-wing and Palliative Care Unit.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Myrtle’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2014, in Brunswick Street United Church, 250 Brunswick Street, Truro, Reverend John Parsons officiating. Reception will follow in the church basement. Private family interment in Watson Cemetery. If so desired, donations in Myrtle’s memory to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society are welcomed.
