Bruce
Scott MacKay – 60, of Bible Hill, passed away
Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
Truro, surrounded by his loving family. Born February 18, 1954 in
Truro, he was a son of the late Pearl "Betty" (Grandy)
MacKay and the late Wilfred G. MacKay .
Bruce grew
up on Robie Street and worked at Crossleys for 35 years. He is
survived by his wife, Karen Sue (Bartlett); son, Scott
(Brittany), Lloydminster, AB; grandchildren, Charles and Abbigail;
brothers, Eric (Lillian), Truro; Ross (Ron), Halifax; sisters, Kelly,
Truro; Sandra Sax, Regina, SK; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Charles, Paul and John; nephew, Joe.
Bruce was
known by his friends and family to be a kind and caring man, never
hesitating to offer his hand to someone in need. Bruce was an avid
pool player, a past time he enjoyed with his wife and son. To them it
was a great way to spend family time together. They competed together
in the North American 8-ball Championships held annually in Las Vegas
from 1997-2003 and once in Reno in 2004. Bruce was a member of Almon
Billards Club in Halifax. Bruce also belonged to the Curling Club in
the 80’s, coached mosquito baseball with his wife before
becoming an umpire in the 90’s. However, it wasn’t
until his later years he found his true calling. Being a grandfather
to his grandchildren, Charles (6) and Abbigail (18 months),
Lloydminster, AB. It was a role he dedicated all his time to and the
only thing he talked about amongst friends. Even from across the
country he found a way to bond, making a point to video chat on a
daily basis, staying involved in their daily activities, and talking
about hockey. Bruce will be eternally missed and never forgotten.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall-Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro where visitation will be held
from 6-8 pm Monday, December 1, 2014 and funeral will be held 6 pm
Tuesday, December 2, 2014. Interment will be at a later date. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bruce in trust to his
grandchildren, at Scotia Bank, 7 Inglis Street, Truro or at the
