Bernard, Janet Louise, 63, Millbrook. It is with great
sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Janet on Monday,
December 29, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends in the
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was a
daughter of the late Alexander "Sandy" and Martha (Francis)
Julien. Janet was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church,
Millbrook; long-time member of the Millbrook Women’s Club;
member of the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association for
many years; member of St. Anne’s planning committee where
she also fundraised for St. Anne De Beaupre trips, which was inspired
by her devotion to St. Anne. She was a long-time employee of
the Millbrook First Nation Band Council at the Truro Junior High
School where she worked for 29-years. She was proud and it gave her
great satisfaction to help the children of Millbrook achieve a higher
education. She truly admired the children and staff she worked with.
She loved to dance, sing karaoke, bingo, and spending time with her
family and friends and writing poetry.
She is survived by her partner of 23 years Woodrow Ellsworth;
son Colin Bernard (Holly) of Millbrook; daughters Sunshine Bernard
(Glen MacLean), Natasha Bernard (Eugene White) all of Millbrook;
grandchildren, Sophie, Mattea, Toby; brothers Joseph of Dartmouth, Joe
B. Marshall of Eskasoni, Keith (Theresa) Julien of Millbrook, Derick
Stephens of Millbrook; several nieces and nephews and God Children;
close friends Phyllis Googoo, Sandra Gloade, Wilma Simon, Melinda
Young, Carol Johnson, Beverly Jeddore, Bernadette Ellsworth, Jane
Abram, Patsy Paul-Martin and several others; her family pet
Chip.
She was predeceased by her husband Matthew Bernard; sisters
Sandra, Linda, Angeline; nephews Shawn Paul, Kevin Bannon, Stephen
Charles Denny, Jonathan Bernard, Roger Cope; niece Sharon
Cope.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Visitation will take place on
Thursday after 4 pm at Janet’s family residence, 11 Church
Road, Millbrook and will continue until her funeral service time on
Saturday, Jan. 3rd at 2:00 pm in the Sacred
Heart Roman Catholic Church, Millbrook. Father Francesco Pirisi will
officiate with burial to follow in the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery. A
Salite will follow after the burial. Family flowers only. Donations in
memory may be made to St. Anne De Beaupre Pilgrimage Committee in c/o
Millbrook Band Administration, P. O. Box 634, Truro, NS B2N 6N5.
