Bela Maria Casson (Nee. Maria Elisabeth Klemm)
– Truro, passed away peacefully, with her family present, on
Monday, January 5, 2015, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre.
Truro. Born in Hamburg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Willi
and Maria (Wagner) Klemm.
Bela is survived by her husband, George MacDonald Casson;
sons, Marcus and grandson, Danney George, Central New Annan; Niels,
Vancouver; brother, Peter, Germany; sister, Susi, Switzerland;
sister-in-law, Joan (Gerry) Carter, Cole Harbour; several nieces and

Bela was a survivor of the bombing of Hamburg during the
Second World War. Being the eldest of four siblings, she helped her
mother and learned at an early age from this experience to be frugal
using what was available to survive this post war period. These were
lessons which guided her throughout her lifetime. Leaving Hamburg, she
worked as an au pair in Sweden before immigrating to Montreal in 1956
and within five days she had a job. It was while working with a
pharmaceutical company where she met her husband, George, and they
married in 1966. Bela was very active in downhill skiing, tennis,
bicycling and road racing. Until recently, she played tennis with her
tennis buddies and was a member of a fitness group.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, January 10,
2015, at Saint Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street,
Truro, Pastor Rob Nylen officiating. Reception will follow in the

of donations to Saint Andrew’s United Church Memorial Fund.
