Slack, Frank Kenneth, age 91, of Valley, Colchester County, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.  Born in Truro, he was a son of the late James and Maudie (Parks) Slack. Frank was a Veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26 Truro. He was a well-known self-employed painting contractor for over 30 years. He was a former member of First United Church in Truro, and a member of the Valley United Church, Truro Curling Club and the Mountain Golf Club. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife, the former Joyce Fulton; son, Dana (Ruth) Slack, North River; daughter, Tracey (David) Mitchell, Truro; step-daughter, Karen Wilson, North River; step-sons, Bruce (Karen) Creelman, Gold River BC, and David (Natasha) Creelman, Onslow; grandchildren, Nicholas Slack and Alana Slack, North River; Sean Mitchell, Calgary; Patrick Mitchell, Halifax; Ryan Mitchell, Fredericton, NB; step-grandchildren, Jonathon Wilson, Stellarton; Meagan Wilson, North River; Ashley Creelman, and Connor Creelman, Gold River, BC; several nieces and nephews; extended family, Irena, Kevin and Dhimitri Hysi, Timberlea. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Yvonne Olive King; brothers, Roy, Rudy, Jim; sisters, Eileen, Jessie. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 26 Truro, will conduct a tribute service 1:45 pm, followed by visitation 2-4 pm Saturday, January, 10, and funeral service 2 pm Sunday, January 11, Rev. Mary J. White officiating, reception to follow, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Interment will be held at a later date in the Terrace Hill Cemetery in Truro. Family flowers only. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Valley United Church, Hospice Society or the Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
