Payne, Thelma M., of Valley, passed away peacefully on
Wednesday, January 21, 2015, in the Colchester East Hants Health
Centre Truro, with her family by her side. Born in Truro on November
26, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Howard Matthew and Mamie
(McNutt) McNutt. She was reared and educated in Bible Hill and Truro
before marrying Angus Payne and moving to the Payne Family Farm at
North River. She lived here until 1995, then moved to Pictou Road
where she shared a home with two of her daughters. She was a member of
the North River United Church and had belonged to the North River
United Church Friendly Hour Group. She was an excellent cook and baker
of homemade bread, rolls and carrot cake. She loved to knit and was
particularly adept at making afghans, some of which received awards at
the local exhibitions. She had a passion for painting and wall
papering and was very proficient at both. Shopping provided Thelma
with great pleasure as much for the "social contact"
with other shoppers as for the fashionable items purchased. Thelma is
survived by daughters, Audrey and Joyce, Valley; Cathy (Robert)
Phillips, Middle Sackville NS; Connie (Brent) Gault, Truro; son,
George, Truro; sisters, Claire Fontaine, Montreal; Irene Dobranski,

grandchildren, Trent (Sherrianne) Phillips, Illinois, USA; Kelly
Gaudet, Rusagonis, NB; Kayli and Nicholas Gault, Halifax; cherished
