Matheson, Laurie, 96, Tatamagouche, and formerly of Bible Hill, passed away peacefully at Willow Lodge Tatamagouche, on Sunday, February 1, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Tatamagouche he was a son of the late William Arthur and Myrtle Elizabeth (Bailey) Matheson. Laurie did several years of Army Service during the war years. He was a former farmer, lumberman, construction worker and later prior to his retirement worked at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. He was a member of St. David’s United Church in Bible Hill, the Bible Hill Garden Club and the I.O.O.F. Lodge Tatamagouche, receiving his 70 year jewel in 2014, and the Clan Matheson. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughter, Beth (Clayton) Langille, Bible Hill; granddaughter, Shelley Beth Langille, Bible Hill; 1 niece, and 5 nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Isabel Anne MacKenzie; son, Bill (George); sisters, Frances and Florence; brothers, Hugh in infancy and Earl. The I.O.O.F. Lodge in Tatamagouche, will conduct a lodge service in Laurie’s memory, 1:45pm Thursday, February 5, followed by visitation from 2 – 5 pm, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro. Funeral service will be held 3 pm Friday, February 6, in St. David’s United Church, 18 St. David’s Avenue Bible Hill, with Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. A reception will follow in St. David’s United Church Hall. Interment will be held at a later date in the Earltown Village Cemetery, Earltown. Family flowers only. Donations in Laurie’s memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation Truro Branch or to the Earltown Village Cemetery.
