at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax, on Sunday March 1,
2015. Born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on September 7, 1917 she
was the second born daughter of Sidney and Laura (Paton) Dunbar.
Following her graduation from high school Millicent took her
nurses' training at the Freemason's Hospital in Morden, Manitoba.
Millicent had an adventurous spirit and with her RN, she worked at the
Mayo Clinic in the US, as an airline stewardess for CP Air in BC, and
then enlisted as a Nursing Sister in the navy during WWII and was
posted to Halifax. While working in the OR at Stadacona
Hospital, she met a handsome dentist and fell in love. Harold and
Millicent were married in December 1946 and settled in Truro to raise
their family. Millicent continued her career and worked as a
nurse in OPD and Recovery Room at the Colchester Regional Hospital.
Millicent took an active interest in the community and was a member of
the congregation of St. John's Anglican Church and the women's group.
She was a member of IODE, Hospital Auxiliary, Truro Curling Club, and
volunteered at the Truro Museum. Millicent loved to knit and stitch
and was a member of the Marigold Guild. Millicent enjoyed physical
activity throughout her life swimming and boating at the family
cottage at Shortts Lake in the summer, and curling, skating and
swimming at the pool in the winter. Millicent enjoyed her years living
at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Hospital and participating in the
activities there. She loved the Veterans Memorial Garden and
celebrated two birthdays there with friends and family. The
family is very appreciative of the loving, compassionate care provided
to our mother at Camp Hill Hospital.
