Ronald "Ron" Newton – 68, Lower Sackville, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at home. Born January 20, 1947, in Wallace, he was the son of the late Dennis and Willma (MacFarland) Newton.

Ron was a member of Knox United Church, Lower Sackville, for many years and was involved in different capacities, including serving as an elder. He began his career as a plater at Pictou Shipyard. After moving to Halifax, he worked with Halifax Shipyard and continued to educate himself and then went on to work with Naval Dockyards from where he retired in 2007 as a hull inspector. After retirement, and up until the time of his death, he worked with Manheim.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sharon Judith Ann (Hemmings); sons, Danny Newton (Ocean Samuel), Halifax; Darren Newton, Toronto; grandson, Chase Newton, Halifax; Chase’s mother, Agnieszka Roland-Mieszkowski, Halifax; sister, Gwenda Harris, Berwick; niece, Nicole Harris, Fredericton, New Brunswick. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Sterling Harris.

Ron’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in Knox United Church, 567 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, from where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2015, Reverend Dr. Ross Bartlett officiating. Spring interment in Fernwood Park Memorial Cemetery, 1800 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ron’s memory to The Arthritis Society are welcomed.
