George Medley Gregg – 81, Truro, passed
away Sunday, March 22, 2015. Born February 19, 1934, in Apohaqui, New
Brunswick, he was the son of the late Stewart and Mabel (Alcorn)
Gregg.
George received the Governor General medal upon graduating
from Sussex High School in 1951 and graduated from Ryerson
Polytechnical in 1963. George was a great contributor to public health
inspection locally and nationally, having served as CIPHI president
(1988-1990), served on its executive in other capacities and was
recognized in "100 Members of Distinction" for his
contributions to Canadian Institute of Public Health
Inspectors.
George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ellen
(Bryant); three boys, Stewart (Lisa Daher), and their children,
Cameron, Nicholas, Erica, Andrew, Olivia, Avery, Quincy, Ottawa;
Richard (Angela Harnish), Tantallon; Roderick (Lee Ann Atwater), and
their children, Calli, Troy, Halifax. George was especially fond of
the family dogs and will be sadly missed by Jilleen.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where George’s
family will receive friends from 2-4, 6-8 p.m., Friday, March 27,
2015, and where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday,
March 28, 2015, Reverend Dr. Daniel Green officiating. Reception will
follow. Spring interment in Watson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
donations in George’s memory to SPCA are welcomed. Private
