Higgins, Robert "Phillip" Muir, 72, Truro Heights, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, April 9, 2015 in the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Muir and Alfreda (Thompson) Higgins. Phillip was a dedicated teacher and early in his career taught at Bible Hill Junior High, and later as a teacher and vice-principal at the Central Colchester Junior High School in Central Onslow. He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and hockey. He played football for the SMU Huskies. He loved travelling and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Marilyn Jane (Langille) Higgins; daughter Julie Irene Bennington (Michael) of Truro Heights; grandchildren David and Adam; sister Diane Higgins of Ontario; half-brothers William "Bill", Edward, Raymond, Ronnie, Mark; half-sisters Lexie, Debbie, Theresa; several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Phillip was predeceased by a son David Trueman Higgins; aunt and uncle (Foster Parents) Margaret and Aubrey Higgins.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, from where visitation will take place on Saturday, April 11th from 6-8 pm  and where funeral service will take place on Sunday, April 12th at 2:00 pm.  Rev. Connie Stewart will officiate with a reception to follow. Burial will take place at a later date in the Truro Heights Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to David T. Higgins Memorial Bursary at CEC, Truro Heights United Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
