Wilson, May J., of Truro, passed away peacefully on Sunday,
April 12, 2015, at Wynn Park Villa Truro. Born in Half Island Cove,
Guysborough County, she was the daughter of the late William F. and
Bessie M. (Armsworthy) Dobson. In her earlier years she was employed
with the Veterans’ Land Act and Truro Wholesalers Limited.
She was also employed for eleven years with H.R. Doane, Chartered
Accountants. She was actively involved in the work of St.
John’s Anglican Church Truro, where she served as Vestry
Clerk (Parish Council) for three years; President of the Altar for two
years and was a member of the St. John’s Ladies Group. She
served as a delegate to the Anglican Synod in Halifax and had the
distinction of being the first woman from the Diocese of Nova Scotia
and Prince Edward Island to be elected to the General Synod. During
the late Bishop Dr. L.F. Hatfield’s tenure in Truro she
attended to his secretarial duties, She was a member of the Colchester
Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Scotia Chapter I.O.D.E., worked with the
Unitarian Service Committee and was a member of the P.C.
Women’s Association. Surviving her are daughter, Margaret
(Jack) Dale, Truro; son, Frank (Norma), Parksville, B.C.; sister,
Edrie Jean (Peter) Mosher, Wolfville; brother, Bill (Mayola)
Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Carolyn Dale, Kingston; Penny (Peter)
Neily, Valley; Jack (Sheila) Dale, Bible Hill; Lisa Henderson,
Nanaimo, B.C., and Kim Henderson, Parksville, B.C.; seven great
grandchildren, Nicholas Dale, Bible Hill; Jaclyn Dale, North River;
Nathan Dale, Bible Hill; Christopher (Melissa) Whitmore, Halifax;
Emily Neily, Middleton; Hayley Jenkins and Ethan Jenkins, Parksville,
B.C.; one great-great-grandchild, Daniel Dale, North River; several
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George in
1975; brothers, Thomas Roy, R.L. Borden, Basil Sherman, all of Half
Island Cove; Donald Wesley, Halifax; sisters, Blanche Jamieson,
Queensport; Millie Fogarty, Canso; Helen Davis, Fonthill, Ontario;
Lexie Cameron, Etobicoke, Ontario; Thelma Davidson, Coquitlam, B.C.;
son-in-law, Jack (Margaret) Dale, Truro; niece, Deborah Dobson,
Halifax; nephew, Leonard Dobson, Fox Island. Special thanks are
extended to Dr. Trevor Locke and the staff of Wynn Park for their
excellent care. No visitation by request. A family graveside service
and interment will be held at a later date in the Terrace Hill
Cemetery Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St.
John’s Anglican Church Truro. Arrangements have been
