Gilby, Ralph William, age 74, of Truro, passed away peacefully at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre Truro, surrounded by his family on Friday, June 5, 2015.  Born in Nine Mile River he was a son of the late Calvin and Eda (Lively) Gilby. In his earlier years Ralph worked for Coupar’s in Bible Hill and then was with Stella Jones in Bible Hill for thirty years. He loved working around in his yard. He was a member of the Nine Mile River United Church. Ralph is survived by his wife the former Marilyn Cavanaugh; son, Laurie (Sherry) Gilby, Lower Onslow; step-son, Troy (Denise) Cavanaugh, North River; sister, Gloria Phillips, Bedford; grandchildren, Parker, Payton, Austin, Nicole, Colby (Melanie), Patrick, Lucas; great grandchildren, Caydon and Carlee; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sons, Blaine and Rick; brothers, Lloyd, Dennis, Norman and Roger. Visitation will be held 1 – 1:50 pm and funeral service 2 pm Monday, June 8, all in the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, with The Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Interment to follow in the North River United Church Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the North River United Church Cemetery or to a charity of your choice.
