Jean Margaret "Peggy" Eldridge – 88, long-time resident of Truro, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 26, 2015, at Williams Country Home, Hilden. Born March 26, 1927, in Sommerville, Massachusetts, USA, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Jean (Godfrey) Horton.

Peggy was a long standing member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro, where she was a member of the choir and was also a member of I.O.D.E., Isgonish Chapter. She trained at Halifax Children’s Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1947. She enjoyed singing and playing piano at various nursing homes, was a life-time blood donor and enjoyed knitting; many have received her knitted treasures. She had a soft spot for animals, especially cats, and will be missed by her faithful companion, Purrdy-Blue.

Peggy was a loving mother, grandmother, and "Great-Gram" and will be sadly missed by her daughters, Lynda-Jean (Lloyd) Coffin, Beaconsfield, Quebec; Betty-Anne Eldridge, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Dr. Karen-Lee Eldridge (Dave Commerford), Peterborough, Ontario; grandchildren, Kelly-Jean (Bruce) Ebbett, Fredericton, New Brunswick; Donald Coffin, Richmond, British Columbia; Richard Charrois, Nanaimo, British Columbia; Marc Charrois, Fort McMurray, Alberta; Steven Commerford, Jeffrey Commerford, Peterborough, Ontario; great grandsons, Alex and Jacob Ebbett; sister, Patricia (Randall) Nickerson, Yarmouth. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald Lindsay Eldridge.

Special thanks are extended to Chantel Bishop and staff at the Senior’s Clinic; VON nursing care, especially Gloria Baker and Debbie Hersey; caregiver, Denice Blois-Parker and the homecare team for allowing her to remain at home for as long as possible and most recently,  the wonderful staff at Williams Country Homes.

Honouring Peggy’s wishes, her remains have been donated to Dalhousie Medical School. Peggy’s family will receive friends from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m., all in St. John’s Anglican Church, 23 Church Street, Truro, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating.
