Terris, Joan Shirley (Corbett), "August 2, 1929 -
December 3, 2019". Born in Bible Hill, Joan was the daughter
of the late James Isaac and Mary Amelia "Minnie"
(O`Hanley) Corbett. From an early age she had a zest for living
that was apparent to anyone who knew her. She loved a good joke and a
laugh which more than once got her into trouble. This was usually with
her best friend Chrissy Richards. Our Mom met our Dad and on the first
date said she was going to marry that man. Never one to waste time she
proceeded to do just that in 1946 at the age of 17. She filled her
home with happiness, kids and lots of laughter. Even though there were
times of hardship and illness she carried on shielding us from most of
the worries of day to day life. She was and remained a tower of
strength until the end. Her greatest treasure was her family.
Mom`s mother Minnie was a founding member of St. David’s
United Church. Mom also was passionate about her church and went
through the process each Sunday of getting 5 kids ready for church
complete with hats and bonnets. She was Sunday School Superintendent
for years, involved also in CGIT, Explorers, UCW, Quilting Group and
many other church related activities. Somehow, she also managed to
work at the Credit Bureau, Agricultural College and Post Office which
she retired from in 1987. Her hands were always busy. She was gifted
with sewing, quilting and any number of handicrafts which often
benefited others. Her love surrounded all of us and we are so humbled
and privileged to have had her as our mother. She was predeceased by
her husband of 53 years, Theodore (Bub/Terry) Terris in 1999, and her
granddaughter, Christa Elaine Yuill-Fletcher in 2017. She is survived
by her five children, Linda Yuill, Sandy MacKinnon (Dave), Brenda
Bullerwell (Scott), Velva Terris, and Terry Terris (Kelly); nine
grandchildren, Kevin, Paul, Scott, Patti, Sarah, Adam, James, Jeremy
and Nicholas, ten great-grandchildren , sister Joyce Stewart (Ruthven)
and many nieces and nephews. We would like to say a sincere thank
you to the staff of the Elk Shannex Facility for providing
excellent care. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, from where visitation will
be held on Monday evening, December 9, from 6 – 8 pm.
