William Roy "Billy" Bonnell – 56, Bible Hill, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, November 23, 2020, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was the youngest son of the late Laurie and Shirley (Beal) Bonnell.
Billy worked in the building industry most of his life, including many years in Toronto in high rise construction. Upon moving back to Nova Scotia, he worked at Lafarge Canada for a number of years and was recently awarded his ten year permanent service award. Billy took immense pride in his job and he was respected by many for the caliber of his work. His family is often reminded of these attributes by his former coworkers. He also enjoyed fishing, and playing cards with his brother, Laurie. He will be missed by many friends.
Billy is survived by his greatest source of pride, his son, Jason Bonnell, East Mountain; partner, Cathy Connolly, Bible Hill; siblings, Christina Bonnell (Darren Harrison), East Mountain; Fred (Anne Marie) Bonnell, Edmonton, Alberta; Frank (Janice) Bonnell, Harmony Ridge; John (Caren) Bonnell, Bible Hill; Dick Bonnell, Truro; Laurie (Danette) Bonnell, Bible Hill; Susan (Hallie) Hamilton, Middle Stewiacke; Leah (Steve) Beirnes, Edmonton, Alberta; Mary (Matthew) Teed, Masstown; uncle, Toby Beal, Five Islands; several nieces, nephews and cousins, most notably Alice Steadman of Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Billy’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 26, 2020. (Please use the front doors of the funeral home, wear face masks and practice physical distancing.) Private funeral service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020, The Reverend Lori Ramsey officiating.
