Sidney Byers "Sid" McCabe - 83, passed away
peacefully, Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Debert Court, Debert. Born in
Harmony, Colchester County, he was the son of the late Seldon and Jean
(Whidden) McCabe.
Sid went to work for the CNR in 1956 as a Morse Operator and
worked at many small train stations throughout Nova Scotia. He worked
for the CNR for 35 years but always did carpentry work in his spare
time to "make a little extra". He spent many hours in his
workshop doing woodworking projects or making things on the lathe for
people that came from all over. He was a proud "east-ender"
living the majority of his life in Truro. Sid was a member of
Brunswick Street United Church, Truro, where he sang in the choir. He
enjoyed square dancing with Mom and the "Strathmore
Strutters". He enjoyed the day trips they would take to where
ever the car stopped. He liked to be on the move.
Sid is survived by sons, Rob (Kathy), East Mountain; Jim
(Cindy), Salmon River; grandchildren, Tara, Jennifer, Stephanie, Evan,
Hailey; great-grandson, Mac; brother, Gordon (Liz); sister, Arlene
(Eric) Farr; many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 54
years, Carol (Rose) McCabe; brothers, Guy, Lynn; sister, Norma;
nephew, Kenny; niece, Sharon.
