Paul Millard Fillmore – 91, Truro. It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Paul Millard Fillmore, share the loss of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Paul was born in Advocate Harbour, Cumberland County, to the late Dr. Millard J. and Jessie (Crowell) Fillmore.

He enjoyed a childhood of adventure, helping hitch the horses and driving with his father on medical calls along the Parrsboro Shore. Paul studied Geology at Mount Allison University and met his wife, Gertrude there. His career took him to a gold mine in Ontario, an iron mine in Quebec and to Falconbridge Nickel Mines in Sudbury, Ontario, where he worked for many years.

In retirement, they returned to his family home in Advocate Harbour. Paul was a creative individual who enjoyed carving decoys, model boat building and most of all, his vegetable garden. Through the years, they travelled extensively from Cyprus in the East to Tasmania in the West, and later spent winters in Victoria, British Columbia.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Edward, Dr. Eric and Hope.

Paul is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Robertson); sister, Anna Cruickshank; daughters, Reta (Bruce Wilson), Rhoda (Randy Pickering), Stephanie (Peter Coulthard), Miriam (John O’Brien); grandchildren, Jillian, Greg, Michael, Nicholas, Bethany, Miriam, Bronwen, Kelly; great grandchildren, Layla, Mateo, Leo, Emma, Hannah.

If so desired, donations in Paul’s memory to Advocate United Church, Advocate Harbour are welcomed and can be made through the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Paul’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
