Beverley Cecila (Johnson) MacKinnon – 74, Salmon River, passed away peacefully with her husband, Nelson at her side, on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Beverley faced her battle with ALS with much grace and courage. Born in Truro, at the old hospital on the corner of Queen Street and Normandy Avenue, she was the youngest of six daughters of the late Cecil and Matilda (Dowe) Johnson.

Beverley was a graduate of Success Business College (Medical Secretary Diploma) and of Frobisher Early Childhood Development Centre (Diploma). As a result and because she loved working with children, she spent many years working in daycares. She was a very kind and loving person, and everyone who was graced by her presence and knew her, will greatly miss her.

Beverley is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Nelson MacKinnon; daughters, Sherry MacKinnon (Monte Emery), Jennifer MacKinnon; son, Keegan MacKinnon; grandsons, Reilly Clark, Alexander Emery; sisters, Betty Carrigan, Frances (Norman) Crosby; brother-in-law, John Robidoux. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Susan (David "Jr.") Betts, Jean Robidoux, Carol (Curtis) Redden; brother-in-law, Donald Carrigan.

We would like to thank the nursing staff of Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC), Dr. Dave Henderson and Dr. Cortney Smith who cared for Beverley in her final days and the VON nurses who attended Beverley at home; you all showed such compassion and kindness.

Graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Watson Cemetery, 1997 East Prince Street, Salmon River, Reverend Gary MacDougall officiating. If so desired, donations in Beverley’s memory to ALS Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Beverley’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
