Terfry, Carole Grace – 81, of Truro passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late Arnold and Lois (Hatfield) Payson.

Carole had a smile that lit up any room. She had a big personality and a devilish sense of humour, often saying things that many would only ever think, leaving many to say, "Only Carole". Carole was a second mother to many of her children’s friends. Always being there, she was the one to go to for help; she had a huge heart and helped everyone whether family or friends.  Carole was a very hard worker and was the owner of Colchester Community Small Options Homes. There were no small option homes in Colchester County in 1988 and she fought for adults with special needs to live in residential homes in the town of Truro. She believed in this need, took a risk and eventually owned five homes in total. In her spare time, Carole loved to travel; she went on many bus tours and train trips (the train being her favorite) with her traveling companion, her daughter, Shelley. She also loved sports, especially the Montreal Canadiens and attended many sporting events such as baseball and basketball games. Carole was the driving force behind her children’s involvement and love of sports.

Carole is survived by her daughter, Shelley (Wayne) Crowe, Truro; sons, Arthur Terfry Jr. (Janet Morley); Randy Terfry (Karen MacLean); Glen Terfry (Sarah Terfry), all of Truro; step-daughter, Debbie MacDonald Crowe (Randy Crowe), Riversdale; brother, Randolph "Randy" (Sandra) Payson, Valley; grandchildren, Shane and Luc Crowe, Truro; Jeffrey Terfry, Calgary, Alberta; Patrick Terfry, Truro; Garrett (Michael) Stewart, Gander, Newfoundland; Joshua Smith, Summerside, Prince Edward Island; Alicia Terfry, Truro; Thomas Terfry (Presley Knockwood), Truro; great grandson, Jayce Terfry; nephew, Troy (Carmen) Payson, Truro.

A private family burial will be held in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley, at a later date. If so desired, donations to Victorian Order of Nurses are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Carole’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com

Carole was planning her next train trip, and now Shelley will take her on the final adventure.

The Train of Life:

At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side. As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, strangers and even the love of your life. However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone. Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum. Some, however, will go unnoticed that we don’t realize they vacated their seats. This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes and farewells. Success consists of having a good relationship with all the passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is this: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down. So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.

I wish you a joyful journey for the coming years on your train of life. Reap success, give lots of love and be happy. More importantly, thank God for the journey!

Lastly, I want to thank you for being one of the passengers on my train!
