Bessie Jean Sawatsky
We regret to announce
the passing of Bessie Jean Sawatsky on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at
Cedarstone Enhanced Care. Born in Belmont, she was a
daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Roode. Bessie outlived her
entire family, living just short of 100 years. She loved her career as
a teacher, writing poetry in retirement and a lover of people.
She was a member of Belmont United Baptist
Church.
Bessie is survived by
her children, Charles (Joan); Beverley (Gerald, deceased); Betty
(Jim); Kenneth (Heather); along with 11 grandchildren and 24 great
grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Emma, Carl,
Kathleen, Evelyn, Ellis, Merna, Mavis, Charlotte and
Carol.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro where a funeral service will be held 2pm on Wednesday,
January 19, 2022, Reverend Charles Sawatsky officiating. Interment
will be held at a later date in Belmont Cemetery. (Due
to Covid-19 restrictions, seating is limited and you must pre-register
to attend the funeral service by calling 902-893-3177. Please note
that proof of double vaccination and photo identification will be
requested prior to entry to the funeral home for the funeral service,
and masks must be worn at all times; thank you for your co-operation
and understanding.) Webcasting of the funeral service
will be available at 1:55 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022, and will
remain on this website for some time. In lieu of flowers, donations in
memory of Bessie may be made to a charity of choice. Private messages
