Robert Lester Wyllie - 95, Lower Debert, passed
away peacefully on Wednesday evening, February 9, 2022, at Elk Court,
Brookfield. He was a son of the late Gordon and Elizabeth (Crowe)
Wyllie and was the last surviving member of his immediate
family.
Lester was a kind, generous, witty and fun loving man who
will be deeply missed by all who loved him. The youngest of five
siblings, Lester’s love for agriculture would lead him to
take over the family farm in Lower Debert, where he lived and worked
his entire life. Lester and his wife Doris (McLellan) of
Spencer’s Island raised their family on the farm alongside
Lester’s parents. During their 42 years of marriage, they
enjoyed going to dances, playing cards, camping, travelling, and
having an all-around good time.
Lester had a lifelong career as a civil servant, first as a
firefighter in Shearwater and Camp Debert, and then as a food
inspector with Agriculture Canada. During his career with Ag Canada he
enjoyed travelling the province and made friends wherever he went, but
first and foremost, he considered himself a farmer. Over the years he
raised beef and grew various crops including strawberries and
blueberries.
Lester was active in his community, as a founding member of
Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade and a lifelong member of Erskine United
Church in Glenholme. He loved spending time with family and friends
and being outdoors, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He also loved
to travel, and enjoyed many trips across North America and around the
world.
Lester is survived by his sons, Steve (Susan), Bruce (Linda),
Doug (Patti); grandchildren, Michele Reyno, Jennifer Broerse, Joey
Wyllie, Adam Wyllie, Marianne Wyllie, Carmen Wyllie, Colette Wyllie,
Patrick Wyllie; 12 great grandchildren; special friend, Shirley
Armsworthy. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife,
Doris; fiancée, Nancy MacLellan; siblings Chellis Wyllie,
Wilfred Wyllie, Max Wyllie, Lyda Fisher.
Lester was fortunate to continue living at home until his
95th birthday, surrounded by his family and pets. This would not have
been possible without the support of the VON, who Lester truly enjoyed
seeing every day. Lester was also incredibly appreciative of the
recent care he received both in the hospital and at Elk
Court.
