Ernest William "Ernie"
Hingley – 97, Salmon
River, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Wynn Park
Villa, Truro. Born in Kemptown, he was a son of the late William and
Susan (MacCabe) Hingley.
Ernie was a veteran of the Second World War and served
overseas in Sicily, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was a
life-member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, where he also
worked on the building committee for many years and was also a member
of Fellowship Masonic Lodge 112. Ernie owned and operated E.W. Hingley
Construction Ltd. for 65 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed moose
hunting, fishing and traveling. He had a soft spot in his heart for
his K-9 companion and best friend, Maggie.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Higgins); daughter,
Virginia Hingley (Marlene Wells), Truro; grandsons, Kevin Hagell
(Dana), British Columbia; Scott Hagell, Truro; step-daughter, Paula
(Kristopher) Sadlier, Economy; step-sons, Jody Gorman (Tina), North
River; Randy (Edith) Gorman, Vancouver, British Columbia;
step-grandchildren, Nicholas Gorman, Truro; Brooke (Matthew) Vance,
Truro; Tyler Gorman, Truro; Summer Sadlier, Economy; sister, Maxine
Shearer, Truro; brothers, Robert (Pat) Hingley, Salmon River; Laurie
(Carol) Hingley, Wellington, Halifax County; sisters-in-law, Grace
Hingley, Wilma Hingley, Salmon River; many nieces and
nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters,
Marjorie, Muriel, Annie, Bertha, Eileen, Norma; brothers,
Parker, Russell, Preston, Ronnie, Flemming,
Earl.
Special thanks are extended to Dr. Trevor Locke and all of
the staff at Wynn Park Villa who cared for Ernie over the past three
years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ernie’s
family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Monday, May 9, 2022.
Fellowship Masonic Lodge 112 will conduct a service at 5 p.m., Monday,
May 9, followed by a Legion Tribute Service at 5:30 pm that will be
conducted by Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Private
interment will be held in Kemptown United Church Cemetery. If so
desired, donations in Ernie’s memory to Kemptown United
Church Cemetery, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 (Building Fund) or
Colchester SPCA are welcomed. Private messages of condolence may be
