James Alvin "Jimmy"
Wilkes – 93, Truro,
passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at The Mira Long Term Care
Centre, Truro.
Born in Halifax, he was moved to Brookside at a very young
age to live at the Youth Training Centre, never to see his family
again. Jimmy made this his home until he was nineteen when he
was placed on various farms in the area as the hired hand, but he
became homesick for the training centre. He returned to the centre and
biked back and forth to his work until eventually settling in with
Charlie and Florence Yuill in Old Barns, where he was like family. On
their retirement, he went to work at Brookfield Lumber for the next 25
years.
With failing health, he moved to The Mira in 2017 where he
showed them who was boss, putting nurse Tina’s blood
pressure up more than once. He soon adjusted and decided he was in the
best place he could be. Thank you for your care and kindness to
Jimmy.
Private interment will be held in Old Barns Cemetery. If so
desired, donations in Jimmy’s memory to Colchester SPCA are
welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of
condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Jimmy’s
