Edith (Edie) Mills Leadbetter - 83, Bible Hill. We're sad to say a life enjoyed and well-lived has come to an end. Edith, born in Joggins, the oldest child of Lawrence and Gladys (Boudreau) Mills, had a wonderful childhood playing sports, studying, singing, swimming, dancing, movies, camping, Sunday picnics, and the company of great neighbours and friends, in a loving family growing up in Joggins.

Edith graduated from River Hebert Rural High, Normal College in Truro, Dalhousie Summer School, and St. Mary's University. Edith taught for 35 years in Cumberland and Halifax Counties, a career she truly loved (most times). Edith retired in 1994 to Truro where she was a member of Truro Curling Club, Happy Harmonies Singers, Marigold Ukulele Players, The Horseman's Club and Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 4, Joggins.

Edith loved spending her summers at "The Camp" in Two Islands enjoying family and friends, driving her ATV and swimming in The Minus into her 80s. Travel was another love and included many trips across Canada, Europe and many trips South.

Edith is survived by her brother, Alan (Sue) Mills, Amherst, who was so supportive of Edith doing many renovations at the camp and during her many moves around Halifax; nieces, Janice Mills, Joggins; Lori Mills (John), Guelph, Ontario; Joy Mills, Quispamsis, New Brunswick; nephew, Greg (Aimee) Mills, Spruce Grove, Alberta; sister-in-law, Elaine Mills (John), Moncton, New Brunswick; grand-nephews, Zach, Jake, Eric, Ben; grand-nieces, Jessica and Liv; travel buddy and best friend, Gay Melanson, Valley, with whom she shared many fun times; many dear cousins and friends.

Along with her Mom and Dad, Edith was predeceased by her sister, Joan; brother, Laurie; many loved aunts and uncles; companion, Norm King; late husband, Lee Leadbetter; dear friend, Elthea.

Edith wanted to express thanks to everyone who touched her life in so many positive ways. Those of us left behind wish to express the utmost thanks to Ede for being in our lives. Kindness takes many forms...do unto others as you would have them done to you.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Edith's family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2022, followed by the funweral service at 3 p.m. If so desired, donations in Edith's memory to a charity of your choice are welcomed.
