The family of Mildred Dolores "Millie" (Weir) MacKenzie – 73, Valley, Nova Scotia is sad to announce that on Thursday, July 14, 2022, Millie passed away peacefully after a long battle with dementia, with her loving family by her side at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Millie was the eldest daughter of the late Lawrence Laughlin Weir and the late Margaret Mae (Kaulback) (Weir) Marshall.

As a baby, her family moved to Bible Hill where she grew up and met her husband, Kenneth at Central Colchester High School. In her younger years, Millie worked at Stanfield’s until she stayed home to raise her family. As her family got older, she became an entrepreneur and started Millie’s Maid Service which she successfully ran for many years before selling the business in 1994. She then went on to work with her husband, Kenneth, on his dairy truck until their retirement in 2008. In their spare time, Millie and Kenneth would build and remodel homes which caused them to move six times in seven years. In 2009, they were finally able to custom design their retirement home, where she would live with her husband until she entered Cedarstone Enhanced Care.

Millie was a very kind and loving person. Her love and devotion to her family could never be measured and it showed in her everyday life. She was very artistic and frequently enjoyed doing arts and crafts as well as tole painting and in her pastime she enjoyed baking and gardening. She always put others ahead of herself and frequently volunteered for www.Angels2theheart.com and blessed many people with her kindness over many years. Her biggest joy was spending time with her loved ones, especially her five grandchildren whom she held dear to her heart.

Millie is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth MacKenzie of 54 years of marriage; children, Scott (Natalie) MacKenzie, Barrie, Ontario; Sherri MacKenzie (Hubert Nicholas), Sydney; Margaret Grant, North River; grandchildren; Kamden, Trinity, Xavier, Tyler, Mathew; sisters, Holly (Ray) Smeltzer, Valley; Francene (Lewis) Graham, Eastville; special uncle, Owen (Carolyn) Weir (who was like a brother to her), Brookside; brother-in-law, Wayne (Beverly) MacKenzie, Little Dyke; sister-in-law, Irene (Roger) Heasman; North Bay, Ontario; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents as well as her step-mother, Joan (Davis) Weir; step-father, Gardner Marshall; mother-in-law, Margaret (Nicholls) MacKenzie; father-in-law, Russell MacKenzie; as well as brothers-in-law, Colin MacKenzie and Keith MacKenzie; grandson, Joseph MacKenzie.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Cedarstone Enhanced Care in Eden Hall for their wonderful care of Millie and our family during her time with them.

As per Millie’s wishes, a graveside service will be held for friends and family at 11 am on Friday, August 12, 2022 in Harmony Cemetery, Harmony Ridge Road, Reverend John Parsons officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia to help find a cure for dementia or to Cedarstone Enhanced Care for their continued support for other families. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Millie’s obituary on-line and by selecting "Send a Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
