Bruce Stephen Ballett- It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bruce Stephen Ballett, 86, of Truro, formerly of St. Catharines and Niagara Falls, Ontario on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

Bruce was married to Frances (Sigal) 2015, for 55 years. He is survived by his children, Glen Ballett (Kathy) and Amy Ballett (Paula Whittaker); grandchildren, Kyle Whittaker (Willow), Rachel Ballett and Michael Whittaker; great grandson, Torin Francis Whittaker; nieces, Jodi Ballett (Dan Buim), Andi Ballett, Lisa Lafata and Shari Halpern and nephews, Steven Halpern (Janice) and Paul Lafata. He was predeceased by his brothers, Allen and Francis Lafata; mother, May (Sacks) and father, Abraham Ballett.

Bruce moved to Port Hope, Ontario with his family in 1939. He became a very active athlete in Port Hope and was the winning pitcher in the 1955 Ontario Championship Junior Baseball League. This success led him into a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodgers! Bruce was a proud man, taking every pain to create a backyard garden over his entire acre, every year. He was a meticulous gardener who found solace in the fresh air. Bruce was also a businessman, who at one time, had a chain of women’s’ clothing stores, a jewelry store, a handmade furniture store, a carpentry renovation business, an eBay store and a clothing factory. An ardent entrepreneur, Bruce fostered that spirit in his children and grandchildren.

Bruce will be especially missed by Philip Gilligan, Bruce’s "Little Brother" from the Big Brother’s Association. Their friendship spans decades 1966-2022. Bruce loved many things… music, animals, nature, singing and all of these loves were accomplished by coming to Truro…

A Private Celebration of Life will be taking place at a future time. If so desired, donations to Truro VON East Hants Day Program, 100-14 Court Street, Truro, NS, B2N3H7 or any humane society are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Bruce’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com.
