Charles Bernard Acton- 74, of Valley,
passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2023 in Colchester
East Hants Health Centre. Bernard, who was fondly known as Bernie, was
born to Mary (Stone) and Thomas Acton in Arichat, Nova Scotia.
He spent much of his professional life
as a truck driver. Bernie had a brilliant mind and was known for his
quick facts and trivia knowledge, particularly around history and
geography. Family road trips across the country were made memorable by
Bernie’s tour guiding with an impressive offering of facts
on landmarks and local history. He had a keen interest in woodworking,
fishing, trucking, maritime cuisine, long road trips, and good music.
His family continually admired the way Bernie faced illness with
determination and without fear. Bernie had a strong faith and trusted
that the Lord would see him through any adversity he faced. Bernie
attended Zion Baptist Church and later Faith Baptist Church. He was a
part of the Zion men’s group for over 20 years.
Bernie’s family was his pride and joy and he had a special
place in his heart for his pets.
Bernie is survived by his beautiful
wife of 45 years, Debra (Nelson) Acton; his son, Matthew (Jeremy);
brother, Richard (Ann); and sister, Anita (Tye). He is predeceased by
parents, Thomas and Mary; his stillborn daughter, Celina; sisters,
Doris (Harold) and Lilian (Norman). Bernie is dearly missed but his
family takes comfort knowing he is resting peacefully in eternal life.
Funeral will be held at 2:30 pm on
Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Faith Baptist Church in Great Village,
officiated by Pastor Steve Adams. In lieu of flowers, donations can be
