Laurie Henry Canning – 90, Lower Onslow. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurie Henry Canning on Thursday morning, March 16, 2023, at Debert Court, Debert. Born in Diligent River, he was a son of the late Chapman and Florence (Read) Canning.

Laurie moved to Upper Stewiacke to work on his Uncle Earl’s farm, and that is where he met his wife, Rosalie (MacKay), of 69 years.

Laurie is survived by his wife, Rosalie; son, Jamie (Tami), Masstown; grandchildren, Matthew, Janelle, Joanna; four great grandchildren; sisters, Janet Varner, Marjorie Gallant, Helen (John) Dodsworth; in-laws, Kenneth (Evelyn) MacKay, Mary (Rodney) Kincaid, Janet Kent, Shirley Graham, Leta (Glen) Ells, Gary (Eleanor) MacKay, Gordon (Cheryl) MacKay, Ethel Ervin; several nieces and nephews; sons, Terry and David.

Along with his parents, Laurie was predeceased by his sister, Doris in infancy, Eileen Allen, Jessie Davis; brother, Read; mother-in-law, Mildred (Fulton); father-in-law, Wallace MacKay.

Laurie was a hard worker, a mentor and a good friend to many. He loved old time music, dancing, and woodworking was his passion. He was a master of many trades, including mechanic, welder, woodsman and furniture maker. He was often called upon to provide his expertise to others. A night of dancing and a good joke were often enjoyed by Laurie and his friends; Laurie always had a story to tell.

There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept;

Things we don’t want to know, but have to learn

and people we can’t live without, but have to let go.
