Douglas Norman "Doug" Barley – 67, Debert. It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their loving husband, father and grandfather, Doug Norman Barley, on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Halifax Infirmary, QEII, after a short and sudden illness. Born in Masstown, he was a son of the late Edward and Ivy (Mosher) Barley.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Connie (Patriquin); daughters, Shannon (Shaun) Gates, Natasha (Matt) Barley; stepsons, Dana (Erin) Murphy, Travis (Jessica) Murphy; stepdaughter, Krisi (Adam) Murphy. He was the proud "Papa" of ten grandchildren, Jillian, Georgia, Kaylee, Ella, Blake, Shantel, Ian, Adalyn, Charlotte, and Carter. He is also survived by his brothers, Dave (Dot) Barley, Gary (Janet) Barley, Reg Barley, Dougie (Fern) Lattie; brother-in-law, Bill Simpson; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Doreen Simpson.

Doug was a custodian for CCRCE for 30 plus years. He enjoyed anything outside, especially four-wheeling, ski-dooing and cycling, but antique cars was his passion. Doug had a fabulous sense of humor and loved a good laugh through telling jokes. Most important to Doug was spending time with his family and grandchildren who will miss him dearly.

Honouring Doug’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. If so desired, donations in Doug’s memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall -Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
