James "Jim"
Leggate – 90,
Glenholme, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on
Sunday afternoon, May 21, 2023, at Shannex Debert Court, Debert. Born
in Chapelton, Scotland, he was a son of the late Gavin and Margaret
(Wilson) Leggate.
Jim farmed in Scotland prior to immigrating to Canada with
his wife, Mary, and their two eldest children, Gavin and Margaret,
arriving through Pier 21 on December 4, 1964. Jim worked as a
farm hand in Shubenacadie and later purchased his own farm in Rines
Creek. In 1984, Jim, Mary and their two youngest children, Heather and
James, moved to Glenholme where he worked in the forestry
industry for well over 40 years and also helped Mary at her store,
Glenholme General Store. Jim was a member of the former Erskine United
Church where he served on the Board of Stewards and he was also the
caretaker of Folly Village Cemetery in Glenholme for many
years.
He and Mary enjoyed travelling together, most notably their
train trip across Canada, touring Newfoundland and sleeping in their
van and family trips to Cuba and Scotland. He enjoyed going for long
drives, reading, writing short stories and trivia of any kind, whether
watching Jeopardy or doing crossword puzzles. Above all, he was a true
family man who loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with
them.
