Anne Elizabeth "Betty"
McNab – 100, Bible
Hill, passed away peacefully, with her children at her side, on
Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the oldest of four children born to the
late William and Esther (Cameron) MacKinlay.
Betty graduated in 1941 from Provincial Normal College in
Truro and taught school in the Truro and Glace Bay areas. She worked
as a dental assistant for Dr. Layton in Truro for 30 years and was a
provider of beauty counsellor products for 50 years. Betty was a
longstanding member of St. James Presbyterian Church and one of the
founding members of Truro Ostomy Association, providing assistance to
many through the years. She enjoyed gardening, swimming, traveling,
knitting, crocheting, quilting and cooking, and was an avid reader,
puzzle solver and sports fan. Betty lived with grace and humility and
radiated love to all in her path. For her 100th
birthday, Betty and her family went zip lining and she was
anxiously awaiting her sky diving adventure to celebrate her
101st birthday!
Betty is survived by her son, David (Rhea) Hall; daughter,
Esther (Tim) Kennedy; grandchildren, Denise (Norris) MacMillan, David
(Kari) Hall, Rachel (Will) Caggiano, Hannah (Clint) Ball, Sarah
(Brian) Deadwyler, Ruth (Hunter) Boehmer, Thomas (Brittany) Kennedy,
Andrew Kennedy, Beth Kennedy; 21 great grandchildren; sister-in-law,
Val MacKinlay, Halifax; several nieces and nephews. Along with her
parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Percy Hall; second
husband, Laurie McNab; daughter-in-law, Irene Hall; sister, Margaret
(Harry) Solomon; brothers, Bill MacKinlay, Cameron (Margaret)
MacKinlay.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Betty’s
family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
Private interment will be held in Robie Street Cemetery, 125 Robie
Street, Truro. Celebration of Betty’s life will be held 3
p.m., Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at St. James Presbyterian Church, 725
Prince Street, Truro, Reverend Andrew Campbell officiating. Reception
will follow in the church hall. If so desired, donations in
Betty’s memory to St. James Presbyterian Church, Ostomy
Canada or charity of choice are welcomed. Messages of condolence may
