Diane Jeanne D’Arc Dionne – 78, North River, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Diane was born in Noelville, Ontario, and grew up in Sudbury with her parents and siblings.

In her late teens she moved to Montreal where she met the love of her life "her little French man, J.C.", who was in the military. In 1964 they were married and in 1965 Diane began her nomad military life by first heading off to Germany, then on to Valcartier (Quebec), Ramore (Ontario), Nanaimo (British Columbia), Senneterre (Quebec), and finally Debert. Diane was a stay at home mother raising three beautiful children. Once the children were raised she worked in many professions due to being a military spouse and the frequent postings. She was active in the community, volunteering with Canada Revenue Agency to assist seniors and low income people to file their tax returns, and was also very much involved in Scouts and Girl Guides over the years.

Diane was a very creative person. She was known for her beautiful crocheted Victorian Christmas tree ornaments, christening dresses for her grandchildren and knitted sweaters of all kinds for her two daughters and all the grandchildren. Diane was also a terrific cook that could put a meal together in a flash.

She will be remembered as a loving wife of 59 years to Jean Claude "J.C."; a great mother and role model to her children, Michel (Sheila), Lunenburg; Suzanne (Lucien), Kingston, Ontario; Sonya, North River; beloved grandmother to grandchildren, Jean Luc, Isaac, Emily, Angelique, Megan, Mikaela, Josee, Andre. Also left behind, with fond memories, are siblings Yvonne, Daniel, Irene, Jeanette. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Elaine.

The family would like to thank all those involved in her care, from the VON and the doctor and nurses at Cobequid Cancer Clinic. Special thanks goes out to all those doctors and nurses from the Palliative Care teams who took special care of her during her final days; their kindness and compassion in a difficult time helped ease the family’s pain.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 669 Prince Street, Truro, Father Andrew Rembarczyk officiating. Reception will follow in Campbell Hall. Interment in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 125 Robie Street, Truro. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada or charity of your choice are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Public messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Diane’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
