Stephen Vaughan "Basil" Babineau – 65, Beaver Brook, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Joseph Babineau and Eva (Brown) Mattatall, and step-son of the late Logan Mattatall.

Stephen worked for over 40 years with United Van Lines as a trucker and mover. He absolutely loved this job and travelled extensively around Canada, making so many new friends everywhere he went. He took pride in his work, moving people and their valuable possessions, from place to place. Since Stephen became sick, and subsequently his death, we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from people who he met and made friends with, and there are so many more that we don’t know!

Stephen is survived by his wife, Jean (Blaauwendraat); son, Casey Babineau, Beaver Brook; brothers, Mike Babineau (Mary Hadley), Jack Babineau, Valley; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters-in-law, Carol Babineau, Rosealee Babineau.

We would like to acknowledge and give thanks to the Babineau and Blaauwendraat families for your love, support and visits and to Stephen’s wide circle of friends, especially Charlie Borden Jr., who have all been a constant support; your phone calls, emails, text messages and visits have meant so much. Finally, to all the staff at QEII and Colchester East Hants Health Centre units that Stephen was cared for in, we cannot thank you enough.

No visitation or funeral at this time, however, there will be a gathering at a later date. If so desired, donations in Stephen’s memory to Lung Association of Nova Scotia are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Public messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Stephen’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
