Dora Elizabeth (Dobson) Vaughan – 85, Bible Hill passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 23, 2023. Born in Queensport, Guysborough County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Borden and Verena (George) Dobson.

Dora is survived by sons, Kenneth, Victoria, BC; Kevin (Anne), Halifax; Keith, Bible Hill; grandchildren, Amielyn and Stevie Ray, Marystown, NL; brothers, Borden (Lillian), Boylston; Terry (Lois), Lower South River; Basil (Marie), Canso; John (Angela), Half Island Cove; sister, Bessie (Mark), Canso; sisters-in-law, Diane, Hamilton, ON; Shirley, Hagersville, ON; several nieces and nephews.

Dora was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Harris (Harry) in 2021. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Amy (Gerald), Sylvia (Barrie), Linda, Nancy; sisters-in-law, Irene (Francis "Rocky") and Maxine; brothers-in-law, Jack, Donald (Toodie), Stanley and Gerald.

Dora graduated from the Nova Scotia Normal College in 1956 and taught for several years until taking time off to start and raise a family. She returned to the classroom in the late 1970s, teaching at Salmon River Elementary School. She completed a Master of Education degree at Mount Saint Vincent University in 1989 and retired from teaching in 1998. Dora was a member and volunteer at St. David’s United Church in Bible Hill and she was a volunteer for many years with service organizations including, IODE and Commercial Travelers’ Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where a reception for friends and family will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, September 9, 2023. Private interment in Bible Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dora’s memory may be made to any charity.
