At the age of 83, Frederick "Fred" Bernard Lang peacefully passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre, in Truro, Nova Scotia. Born in Halifax on August 9, 1940, Fred Lang was the son of Eddie and Rita Lang. He was the older brother to Sandra "Cookie" Kline and Frank Lang (passed away 2008).

At the age of 17, Fred left Halifax for boot camp and entered the military. Through training and hard work Fred became an aircraft engine mechanic. A devoted husband, Fred met his future wife, Grace Latullippe when he was stationed in Ottawa as a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Fred and Grace were married in November of 1964, the next day they headed off for a four year tour of Belgium, France and Germany.

Fred's oldest son, James "Jim" Edward Lang was born in Verdun, France in October of 1965. After being transferred to CFB Trenton, Ontario, Fred's daughter, Kimberly "Kim" Anne Lang was born in January of 1971.

In the summer of 1978, Fred and the family piled into their Ford LTD and drove to Burbank, California for his latest posting. In December of 1979, Fred was heading home and he was posted to CFB Greenwood, Nova Scotia. In September of 1982, Fred and the family moved to CFB Borden, Ontario. Fred's final posting in the RCAF took place in the summer of 1988 when he was stationed to CFB Downsview, Ontario.

Finally, after an impressive 33-year career, Fred retired from the military as a Master Warrant Officer in August of 1990. Fred and Grace lived for a few years in Newmarket, Ontario. From there, they settled in St. Catharines, Ontario as Grace was stationed for her executive job the Ministry of Transportation in Ontario.

In April of 2000, Jim married Patricia and they had two lovely daughters, Adriana and Cassandra. In November of 2008, Kim married the pride of Truro, Steve Shaw. A few years later, their special daughter, Sophie was born. Fred now had his beloved wife, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and three granddaughters.

Fred’s last posting with ‘Amazing’ Grace was at Parkland in Truro, Nova Scotia. After many years, Fred had finally come home to his beloved Nova Scotia.

Fred Lang loved his family above all else. He was a loyal and loving husband. He loved his kids and his grandkids. He loved his country and the RCAF. He loved the Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Fred Lang loved his wife, Grace; he loved his family and friends. While he will be missed, his memory and legacy of kindness will live on for years to come.
