Christopher Allan MacKinnon – passed away at home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the age of 49, after his long battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. Chris was born in Cape Breton and raised in Truro.

Chris is survived by his loving wife, Juanita (Walker) MacKinnon; children, Ewan, Ella and Cara; parents, Gordon and Mary Denise (Dickson) MacKinnon; sister, Laura MacKinnon; niece, Madison; brother, Rod MacKinnon (Kerry Chisholm); grandmother, Gloria Audrey MacKinnon; along with many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by grandfathers, Malcolm MacKinnon and Ernest Dickson; grandmother, Mary Dickson.

Chris worked at MacKenzie’s Towing and Service Centre from the age of 16. It was more like a family to him than a place of work. When Chris was not at work, you could find him at the rink, playing or coaching hockey, the game he loved to his Ewan, Cara and many others. When not at the rink, he could be found at Hart Lake drinking a beer by a fire and telling a story that will live on through his children.

Chris loved being outside, whether it was playing baseball in his younger years, four-wheeling, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting, just going for a hike, snowshoeing  and swimming with his family at our little piece of heaven, Hart Lake. Chris’ knowledge and passion for hunting and fishing was taught to him by his father, Gordon which he happily passed on to his son, Ewan. He loved cheering on Ella at her many horse shows.  Chris’ biggest joys in life were teaching his kids to love life and enjoy life as much as he did.

Family was everything to Chris; he loved his kids and wife with his whole heart and supported them in every decision and sport they chose and took his time to teach them important life skills. He always said "How will they learn if you don’t teach them?"

Chris’ smile and joy for life and family was infectious. He was determined to enjoy every day with a positive attitude.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Truro Area Minor Hockey, MacKenzie’s Towing and Service Centre, Scotia Pool and to all the individuals that supported our family over the past four years.

A Celebration of Chris’ Life will be held from 4-8 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at H. Douglas Boyce Village Hall, 69 Pictou Road, Bible Hill. If so desired, donations in Chris’ memory to Fundy Trail Snowmobile Club or Palliative Care are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Public messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Chris’ obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
