Donald George Streatch - 85, Bible Hill, formerly of Upper
Stewiacke, surrounded by loved ones, passed away peacefully on Friday,
November 3, 2023. Born in Meaghers Grant, he was a son of the late
Charles Stanley and Marjorie Louise (Dickie) Streatch.
Leaving school at a young age, George worked many jobs over
his life, from farming, logging, truck driving and milling, to
Michelin, auto-body work and heavy truck mechanic. George loved the
outdoors, fishing and gardening. He was a good handy man and a great
woodworker, and could fix anything with an engine - of which his
family and friends routinely took advantage. George was a devoted
father, grandfather, great grandfather, and husband of 61 years to
Zelda who passed away earlier this year.
He will be dearly missed by his sons, Donald, Halifax; Paul
(Sharon), Ottawa; daughters, Sharon, Truro; Rhonda (Mike) Scissons,
Valley; grandchildren, Erin, Tyler, Ben, Emma; great grandchildren,
Oliver, Emmett, Jackson, Emma; brother, Sandy (Anne); sisters, Kay
(Bud), Jeannie (Lewis). Along with his parents, he was predeceased by
his wife, Zelda (McCoul); son, Douglas; brothers, Ray, Jack,
Howard.
George’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.,
Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Upper Stewiacke United Church Hall, 5511
Highway 289, Upper Stewiacke. (Please wear a mask, if able.) All are
welcome to attend a graveside interment service for George and Zelda
that will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Riverside
Cemetery, Southside Road, Upper Stewiacke. In lieu of flowers,
donations in George’s memory to Upper Stewiacke Cemetery
Corporation, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice are
welcomed.
