Larry "Zane" Fraser – 72, Truro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Spurgeon and Irene (Giffin) Fraser. Dad grew up on the west side of New Glasgow, a proud member of the founding family of the town.

He spent many summers growing up at the family cottage on Sinclair’s Island. Dad attended high school in New Glasgow and was especially proud to be named Valedictorian while still in grade 11 for that years graduating class. Upon graduating he attended St. Mary’s University where he was the athletic trainer for the Huskies Football team. He proudly served his country as a member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders, where he achieved the rank of Captain in the Militia. Dad spent years coaching with a number of hockey teams in Tatamagouche. He was most proud to be assistant coach, alongside friend John Sellars, of the 1979-80 midget team, who brought home Tatamagouche’s first ever provincial hockey banner. Dad was a lifelong businessman.

He sold real estate and was a franchisee for Re-Max, and from there he settled into his role as business manager working 15 years for Hollis Ford where he won top sales awards. He spent the last of his working years as finance manager for CRC-RV Centre, a job he truly enjoyed and allowed him the flexibility to travel in his off season. Dad was able to see a lot of the world, including trips to Ireland, Germany, Panama, France, Venezuela, Mexico and many more.

Upon his retirement Dad took a keen interest in Brule Point Golf, where his son Matt is manager. He devoted countless hours and was integral in ensuring the operation of the course would remain on the Brule Shore. Some of Dad’s proudest moments at the golf course were catering the Annual Caitlyn Fraser IWK Fundraiser Golf Tournament alongside his daughter, Alyson. Dad had many other interests including harness racing, spending many hours at MacKay Stables with Emmons, cooking, gardening, watching the Montreal Canadiens, bee keeping and taking in episodes of Coronation Street.

Of all of Dad’s accomplishments in life, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. Zane is survived by his son, Matthew (Veronica), Greenfield; daughter, Alyson, Bible Hill; three beautiful granddaughters, Caitlyn, Sydney, Jillian. He is also survived by brothers, Wade (Deb), London, Ontario; Shaun (Lilia), Moncton, New Brunswick; special "Aunt", Donalda (Ernie) Hafey, Antigonish.

Special thanks go to the nursing staff at All Saints Hospital, Springhill for their exceptional care of our father in his last months. Special thanks also to friends Gene Manly and Lyle and Cindy Davidson for their care and concern the last few months.

There will be a celebration of life taking place from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Truro Horsemen’s Club, 288 Main Street, Bible Hill. If so desired, donations in Zane’s memory IWK Children’s Hospital, Halifax are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Public messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Zane’s obituary on-line and selecting "Send A Condolence" at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
