It is with profound
sadness that the family of Don Wight announce his quiet passing on
Friday, November 3, 2023 in the comfort of his home in Valley,
formerly of Pasadena, NL. In recent years he faced with courage,
strength and dignity the many challenges of living with
Parkinson’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia.
Leaving to mourn with
wonderful, loving memories are his wife of 52 years, Lena; daughter,
Susan (David) Gosse; son, Sam (Claire) Wight; adored grandsons,
Benjamin and Donald Davidson, Owen and Lorne Wight; siblings, Gerald
(Jesse) Wight, Pasadena, NL, Maxine (David) Carter, Deer Lake, NL,
Robert (Francine) Wight, Pasadena, NL, Myra (Jim) Floros, Scarbrough,
ON, Linda Wight, Deer Lake, NL, Bonnie Raymond, Pasadena, NL;
sisters-in-law, Betty Wight, Sandra Wight and Elizabeth Wight, all of
Pasadena, NL; brother-in-law, Samuel Jr. (Doreen) Billard, Sunnyside,
NL; sisters-in-law, Hilda (Kenneth) Rideout, Stephenville, NL,
Margaret (Wayne) Butt, Stephenville, NL; as well as a large circle
of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Don was predeceased by
his parents, Harvey and Marigold (Ellsworth) Wight; brothers, Claude,
Victor, Junior and Wayne; brothers-in-law, Ray Langdon and Jim
Raymond; sister, Dinah Langdon; sister-in-law, Hattie (Tiff) Wight;
father and mother-in-law, Samuel and Pearl Billard.
Don loved his family,
friends and Newfoundland. During his teaching career he had a
significant impact on his students and communities where he lived. He
enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting, reading, solving Suduko, technology
and listening to music, all which he enthusiastically shared with his
grandsons. In later years, he loved spending time in Florida with his
sister and brother-in-law, Myra and Jim.

care.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young
Street, Truro, where a Celebration of Don’s life will be
held 11 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, Reverend April Hart
officiating. Webcasting of the service will begin at 10:55 am. If so
desired, donations in Don’s memory to Parkinson Society Nova
Scotia or Newfoundland and Labrador are welcomed. Public messages of
