Marie Genevieve (Babin) Marchand – 89, Truro. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Genevieve Marchand at her home in Wynn Park Villa, on Friday, January 12, 2024. Mom died peacefully with family by her side, telling her how much they loved her. The family is grateful to have had her close by and wish to thank staff at Wynn Park Villa who responded to her with such love, care and attention.

Born in West Arichat, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Melinda (Poirier) Babin. She often spoke of her great admiration for her father who raised his four children after an early loss of her Mom. She also felt blessed in her later years to have time with her brother, Harold and his wife, Anna.

Genevieve was a nourisher of the young and old and who demonstrated her kindness and generosity by sharing her fun loving spirit and cooking, with people in her community. She was a proud, active member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 where she danced the night away every chance she got.

Genevieve was predeceased by her loving husband, Francis Marchand; brothers, Velma and Howard; sister, Marie Alva in infancy. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her brother, Harold (Anna), West Arichat; three daughters, Melinda, Dartmouth; Anna (Paul) Truro; Brenda (Glen), Middle Sackville; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47, 6834 Grand Anse Highway 4, at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 27, 2024. Private family interment to follow in West Arichat Cemetery.

If so desired, donations on her behalf can be made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 or a charity of your choice are welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared with Genevieve’s family at:
