Grace Blair Thomson - 88, Truro, formerly of Bible Hill, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024, peacefully at Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in New Glasgow, Grace was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Forbes (MacDonald) of New Glasgow. Predeceased by her husband, John P. Thomson; they met in high school and were married for 31 wonderful years before John’s untimely passing in 1991. Predeceased also by her brothers, Grant (Donna) Forbes, Ross (Linda) Forbes.

She is survived by her children, Peter (Shelley) Thomson, Shortts Lake; Karen (Scott) Soucy, Ottawa; Robert (Jennifer) Thomson, Halifax; brother, Kevin (Lorraine) Forbes, Edmonton; grandchildren, Sarah (Peter) MacGillivray, Michael (Ellen) Thomson, Emily (Andrew) Soucy, Daniel Soucy, John Thomson, Sophie Thomson, Caroline Thomson; step grandchildren, Alyssa (Ben) Roy, Jamie (Alison) Patterson; great grandchildren, William and Norah MacGillivray; step great grandchildren, Lucy, Dana and Madelyn Roy.

Mom graduated in 1957 as a Registered Nurse from the Halifax Children’s Hospital School of Nursing. She enjoyed her career as a nurse and worked in hospitals in Halifax, London, Ontario, New Glasgow, Montreal and lastly at the former Nova Scotia Youth Training Centre in Brookside. Mom was also known to volunteer as camp nurse over the summer months at Camp Geddie in Merigomish whenever needed. She was well trained and applied her discipline to many aspects of her life and could often be seen and heard offering thoughtful ideas on how to improve upon things.

Grace loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was delighted whenever they called or came to visit and was proud of their many accomplishments. She loved to hear about everyone’s adventures of the week. She was a proud member of St. James Presbyterian Church in Truro.

We would like to acknowledge the wonderful care and compassion Mom received from the nurses and personal support workers at Parkland Fergus Hall, Cedarstone and from the teams at Colchester East Hants Health Centre.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Grace's memory to Feed Nova Scotia are welcomed. (

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall - Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2024, Reverend Andrew Campbell officiating.
