Mary Bethina "Beth" Pearo – 89, Truro,
passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Born in St.
Peter’s, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late
Raymond and Beatrice (Morrison) Pearo.
Beth enjoyed various career paths during her lifetime that
included working at Morrison’s General Store in St
Peter’s, Cape Breton, Forest Biology Lab in Masstown, and
Dalhousie University Biology Department. Her teaching career of 28
years began in Bella Bella, British Columbia, then to Willow Street
School in Truro and finally at Cobequid Consolidated in Old Barns,
from where she retired in 1992. She also enjoyed her many years of
work as a Mary Kay consultant.
Beth obtained her Bachelor of Education from Acadia
University in 1964, and Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s
University in 1978. She enjoyed her work as cub leader at Immanuel
Baptist Church and as an Akela leader at First United Church in Truro
in the ‘50s’!
Much pleasure was found in her church work and activities
with Retired Teachers Organization and her Red Hat group (Red
Bloomers). She volunteered at the Hospital Coffee Shop for 24 years,
and she especially enjoyed her bridge games with her patient and
understanding friends, Jean, Carol, and Betty.
Beth is survived by her niece, Susan Krenek (Steve); nephews,
Raymond (Carolyn) Pearo and Ross (Lisa) Pearo. Along with her parents,
Beth was predeceased by her brother, W.R. "Bill" Pearo;
sister-in-law, Mary; much-loved kitties, Sandy, Beau, Belle Anne,
Buffie, Rose Ann, Mini Belle and Abby Anne.
Special thanks to friends Wendy and Heather for their
friendship and visits each week, and to the staff at of Victoria Way
of Cedarstone Enhanced Care, for their care and
compassion.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, April 18,
2024, at St. Andrew’s United Church, 55 King Street, Truro,
Reverend Shannon MacLean officiating. Reception will follow. If so
desired, donations in Beth’s memory to Colchester SPCA or
St. Andrew’s United Church are welcomed.
