It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Samuel Miles Worthington, 77 of Debert. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, August 8, 2024.

Sam leaves behind his wife, Connie of 57 years; two sons, Sam Jr. (partner, Lynn), and Aaron (wife, Debbie); loving Papa to six grandchildren, Nathan, Timothy, Michaela, Austin, Clayton, and Kaya.

Sam is also survived by brother, Richie (Shirley, deceased); and sisters, Eleanor (Charlie, deceased), Marion, Kathleen (husband, Jack). Sam was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Thelma Worthington of Glace Bay, Cape Breton.

Sam was a man of many careers, and was loved and respected by many. He joined the Air Force at the age of 16 and served his country proudly for 27 years. From there he worked for Loomis Armoured Security before opening his own variety store in Truro, while launching a vending machine business in Truro and surrounding area. He proudly supported the Truro Bearcats, selling his merchandise at games and in his store.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Masoumi for his years of support for Sam. As well to our great neighbours Melissa, Smitty, Colby, Steven, William, and John who have been of great support over the years. And lastly to Ryan Cameron who worked beside Sam through thick and thin for many years, and was a good friend and an honorary member of our family.

Honouring Sam’s wishes there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sam’s memory to the IWK Health Centre Foundation are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Tributes, words of comfort and memories may be shared at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
