Ina Effie Hawkes – 78, Truro. Our beautiful Mom has
now gone on to her Heavenly reward. She passed away peacefully,
surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at
Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Priceville, New
Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Philip and Florence
Price.
Mom moved to Truro in 1966 where she met our Dad, Clifford,
and they were married in 1968. Truro/Bible Hill became their forever
home and where they chose to raise their three children, Tina, Troy
and Trent. She poured much love on us, but the leather strap or that
purple plastic spoon was never far away in case one of us needed a tap
or two. Family vacations to Priceville/McNamee every summer to visit
Grammie and Grampie created many happy memories.
When the grandchildren came along, she spoiled and loved on
them; each one of them had a special bond with her. Over the last five
years, her greatest joy would be when her little Missie, Emilia came
to visit or a phone call or visit from one of the
grandkids.
Mom was a member of Turning Point United Pentecostal Church,
where she taught Sunday school and held other positions. She loved her
church family.
Mom worked at Nelson’s Cleaners as a seamstress for
a short time. She continued her work as a seamstress over the years,
making many dresses for weddings and prom, and doing simple or major
alterations. She was also a great cook and baker, and if you were ever
privileged to have some of her bread or her yummy banana crema pie,
you definitely had a treat. Over the years, she did housecleaning for
several families and businesses in the Truro area.
Ina is survived by her daughter, Tina (Clyde) MacCabe; sons,
Troy (Fiancée, Stacey, deceased), Trent (Dani);
grandchildren, Josh (Lauren), Martina, Aaron (Madison), Jay; great
granddaughter, Emilia; brothers, Vaughn (Sylvia) Price, Adrian Price;
sister, Louise; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Hawkes (Manley, deceased),
Elsie Vail (Roland, deceased), Joyce Hawkes, Yvonne Price; special
aunt, Zola Price; many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Special mention and thanks to friends, Joy Weatherby and Bill and Ann
Hill for all the outings, party celebrations and restaurant meals over
the past few years; she so enjoyed them.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,
Clifford (2010); brothers, Paul, Carl, Robert in infancy;
sister-in-law, Donna.
Mom, we already miss you and there is a big hole in our
hearts now. However, we rejoice knowing that you made it home and we
will see you soon. We will love you forever.
Special thanks are extended to the VON nursing staff, EHS,
Colchester East Hants Health Centre ER staff, Dr. Steven Cook and Dr.
Malcolm Meadows-Younger for your care and compassion.
