Robert Arnold "Bob" McCallum – 84, Valley, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre (Second Floor ICU), Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Russell and Violet "Helen" (Pritchett) McCallum. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Robert Ross McCallum in infancy; brother, Gary; sisters, Jackie, Natalie; mother and father-in-law, Warren and Susan (Pender) Ross.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elaine (Ross); daughter, Donna McCallum; nieces, nephews, cousins, brother-in-law and their respective spouses.
Dad drove a tractor trailer for over 35 years for Ben’s Bread Limited and had many safe driving awards over the years including the Million Mile Club. Dad loved his 1979 Ford truck and always liked taking drives with Mom. They liked to attend a few car shows in the area. He also liked to tinker with his tractor and in his shed.
Bob was a founding charter member of Valley – Kemptown & District Fire Brigade for over 48 years and was active in the hall until his death. The members of the hall were family to him and they were always there to help, and he always tried to help anyone in need as well.
Bob loved sports and in his younger years he played baseball, hockey, bowled and enjoyed curling. He could be seen walking and biking as he always tried to be active and keep moving.
Despite many health challenges over the last few years, he held steadfast in his commitment to live his best life and he always said, "It will be what it will be." Nothing he faced scared him, and he fought with every ounce of his being to be the healthiest he could be and even when he wasn’t, he never complained. He was a man of great courage and he will not be forgotten.
Special thanks to Dr. Srivasta, Dr. Jag Singh and Dr. Banks as well as nurses Sean, Ash, Franklin, Meghan, Anastasia, Jessica, Alicia, Joni, Kia and other nurses in the ICU. The care that Bob received there was amazing; you are such a caring staff. Also thanks to Dr. Rowe and his wonderful nurses who were Bob’s support during his cancer treatment in Truro.
We also wish to express special thanks to the paramedics and Valley – Kemptown & District Fire Brigade members, Nigel Leggett, Glen MacAulay, Brad Moore and Spencer Maskill for being at the house and helping the night Bob went by ambulance at 3 am.
To everyone who has helped us with mowing, bringing food, calling or visiting, it has been greatly appreciated more than you know.
Bob was always ready and willing to help others in need and expected nothing in return.
