
J. Stephen Clark – 72, Valley, passed away peacefully at home, following a short illness, on Friday, March 28, 2025, with his loving wife at his side. Born in Oakville, Ontario, he was a son of the late Jack and Violet Clark.
Stephen received his PhD from North Carolina State University. Following in his dad’s footsteps, he embarked on an academic career and taught at Duke University, North Carolina, University of Saskatchewan, and University of Lethbridge, Alberta and currently at Dalhousie University Agriculture campus since the early 90s. He absolutely loved his work, especially teaching and research, and enjoyed travelling to Prague to teach and do research with colleagues at the University of Life sciences. He was recently also was a member of a small international research group comprised of other academics from Prague, Canada and China.
He had a very special place in his heart for animals and loved his dog, Strider, and cat, Mo. Many will remember seeing Stephen and Strider out for their daily walks. He enjoyed following Toronto Blue Jays and Duke University Basketball and was an enthusiastic bridge player. He also had an appreciation for music ranging from opera to rock and roll.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Cathy Fleming, Greenfield; brother, Ross Clark, London, Ontario; nephew, John Fleming, Dartmouth. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Clark.
There will be no visitation or service. If so desired, donations in Stephen’s memory to Colchester SPCA or Canadian Cancer Society are welcomed.
