George White – 95, Truro. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George White on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro.

George is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marney (Fream); his only daughter, Nancy (Barry Baker); granddaughter, Lauren Williams (Justin); grandson, Ian Baker (Nadia Leiningen); three great grandchildren, Noëlle Williams, Thomas Baker Leiningen, Theodore Baker Leiningen.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wilson and Ida (Lilly) White; young brother, Jonathan; mother-in-law, Margaret Fream.

George was born in Grand Bank, Newfoundland and moved to Pushthrough, Newfoundland where he lived until he completed high school. After high school and before joining the RCMP, George went to Teacher’s College in St. John’s and taught for four years in small schools in the Burin Penninsula. George joined the RCMP, Canada’s national police force in 1952, and was a proud member for 35 years, working in Highway patrol for the first five years before joining the Identification Section, where he spent the last 30 years of his career.

He and Marney moved across Canada and back and lived in several provinces before making Nova Scotia (Halifax) their last, and retiring there in 1987. After retiring, George and Marney moved to their cottage in Malagash Mines where they enjoyed summers with friends and family, and winters in their home in Florida. During this time they also enjoyed travelling throughout Canada, United States and Europe, as well as several cruises throughout Europe, South America and Caribbean. They moved to Truro in 2012 where they enjoyed 11 years in their apartment before moving to Parkland Retirement Residence two years ago.

Thank you to all the staff at Parkland, Fergus Hall, for their wonderful care and support. Very special thanks to our private CCAs, Madonna and Isaac, who took such good care of Dad these last few years. We will never be able to truly express our true appreciation and gratitude for all you’ve done.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, where George’s family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2025. Private interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of George can be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada or Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
